OUR HISTORY

Opened in 1995 as the Heart of Georgia, Youth Science & Technology Center, the Central Georgia Youth Science & Technology Center is a Regional Center for GYSTC, Inc. which is a private, not-for-profit educational organization designed to increase interest in and enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) for serious study, particularly among elementary and middle school teachers, students and parents in typically underserved areas in the state. Central GYSTC has been relocated to Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. The Center provides various professional development programs and STEM kits for K-8 teachers and students.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the Central GYSTC is to promote, interest, rigor, and enthusiasm in science and technology instruction. Hence, the primary purpose of the Central GYSTC is to provide quality professional learning opportunities in the sciences and technologies for all teachers in the membership school systems. In addition, the Central GYSTC also offers a range of other programs such as Family Science Nights, STEM equipment lending, student programs, and professional learning sessions.

OUR BOARD

Central GYSTC is under the leadership of the State GYSTC Board of Directors. Most regional center's boards represent the center's member school systems and interested community members from business and industry in the service area. Board members volunteer their time and service to help the coordinator fulfill the mission of increasing interest, achievement, and enthusiasm in the STEM fields.​
