2020 Summer STEM Institute

Each grade band (k-2, 3-5, 6-8) will participate in a variety of STEM Challenges, Siemens Activities, Literacy Correlations and Vocabulary Cards.  Participants will receive a notebook of all materials and a kit with the materials to conduct the challenges in their classroom.

Physical Science instruction will be centered around force and motion and light and sound.  Using the engineering design process, participants will perform several different activities including, but not limited to the following STEM Challenges:  Meaningful Learning About Light, Extending Pliers, Elevator Magic, and Making a Magnetic Car.  The incorporation of literacy and vocabulary will be incorporated by reading children’s literature books and making the vocabulary cards.  Several physical science activities will be incorporated to demonstrate the ease of teaching physical science at all levels.  The sessions will incorporate 3D science instruction and incorporate technology and robotics.

Life Science instruction will focus on adaptations and survival.   Using the engineering design process, participants will perform several different activities including, but not limited to the following STEM Challenges:  Desert Microbes, Spider Webs, Bird Nests and a Robotic Hand.  The incorporation of literacy and vocabulary will be incorporated by reading children’s literature books and making the vocabulary cards.  Several life science activities will be incorporated to demonstrate the ease of teaching life science at all levels.  The sessions will incorporate 3D science instruction and incorporate technology and robotics.

Earth Science instruction will focus on geology and astronomy.  Using the engineering design process, participants will perform several different activities including, but not limited to the following STEM Challenges:  Earthquake Engineering, Harnessing the Wind and Homemade Projectors.  The incorporation of literacy and vocabulary will be incorporated by reading children’s literature books and making the vocabulary cards.  Several earth science activities will be incorporated to demonstrate the ease of teaching earth science at all levels.  The sessions will incorporate 3D science instruction and incorporate technology and robotics.
