Reserve a Virtual or Face to Face In-Class Field Trip when you would like for an Etowah GYSTC employee to teach, co-teach, or provide a lesson via a virtual platform on a particular standard.  Please use the Google Form below to complete your request.  Etowah GYSTC will then be in touch with you to confirm details.

*Parts of a Plant - S1L1a
Students should be able to identify the parts of a plant. They will
be able to describe how different plant types have parts with
unique characteristics. Students will also be able to discuss the
need for plants and trees and how they contribute to human life.

*Secret Signals: Light and Sound - S1P1a, b, c
Lights and sounds can not only be used for seeing and hearing,
but also as a way to communicate directions, warning signals, etc.

Second Grade

Organisms develop in a cycle, and these cycles have many
similarities and differences.

*Rosie Revere’s Flying Machine- Force
and Motion - S2P2 a, b, c
Students will listen to the story Rosie Revere Engineer by Andrea
Beaty read by NASA astronauts. Students will then work through the
Engineering Design Process to design a flying machine for Rosie
Revere. Students will build a simple “flying” machine as they
investigate aspects of force and motion.

*Bee a Pollinator - S2L1c
Students will explore the inside of a honeybee hive and see the
worker bees, queen, and drones. They will also get an up-close
view at the life cycle of a honeybee and the body parts of a
honeybee as they search for the queen.

Explain to students that they are now going to work in groups to
classify objects as solids, liquids, or gases

use the Engineering Design Process to build a simple model robotic
hand.  Students will discover possible designs that could produce a
simple but functioning limb while learning how the skeletal systems
and muscular system work together.  After doing so, they should
consider the strengths and weaknesses of each idea before deciding on
which idea they think will provide the best solution.

Students should complete the Strawberry DNA Extraction lab.
Students will create a buffer using household products (dish
soap, salt and water). By following lab protocol, students will
extract DNA from at least two fruits and then compare the DNA
of each of the fruits.

hand.  Students will discover possible designs that could produce a

and muscular system work together.  After doing so, they should
consider the strengths and weaknesses of each idea before deciding on
which idea they think will provide the best solution.

Systems and homeostasis - S7L2c
Students will research body systems, functions and the effects on
zero gravity on Mars. Students will use the Engineering Design
Process to create a prototype of a product that would help an
astronaut living in zero gravity.
