Reserve a Virtual or Face to Face In-Class Field Trip when you would like for a West GYSTC employee to co-teach with you or provide a lesson via a virtual platform on a particular standard. Please use the Google Form below to complete your request. West GYSTC will then be in touch with you to confirm details.

Kindergarten SKE1.a,b Little Owls Night & Day Students will develop a model to show day and night and include things seen in the day or night sky. Includes an illuminated sun with earth and moon model for teacher use.
Kindergarten SKP1.a,b Kite Day! Students will compare materials to determine the best ones for designing their own kite. (EDP)
Kindergarten SKL1. a,b Living/Non-living Students will classify objects according to living or non-living and develop models.
Kindergarten SKP1.c Will it Float? Students will classify objects according to their physical attributes- buoyancy.
1st Grade S1L1.a Parts of a Plant Students will identify and label the parts of a plant.
1st Grade S1P1.a,b,c Secret Signals: Light & Sound Lights and sounds can not only be used for seeing and hearing, but also as a way to communicate directions, warning signals, etc.
2nd Grade S2L1.a Lot's of Life Cycles Students will create a life cycle model of an organism of their choice.
2nd Grade S2L1.c Bee A Pollinator Students will design a honey bee and pollinate two flowers with their honeybee.
2nd Grade S2P2. A Toy Inventor Students will design and create a toy and describe the pushing and/or pulling motion needed to move the toy. (EDP)
2nd Grade S2P2. b,c Rosie Revere's Flying Machine Students will listen to the story Rosie Revere Engineer by Andrea Beaty read by a NASA astronaut. Students will then work through the Engineering Design Process to design a flying machine for Rosie Revere. Students will build a simply "flying" machine to fly on a zip line as they investigate aspects of force and motion.
2nd Grade S2P1 a Mystery Matter Students will classify objects into solids, liquids and gases depending on their properities.
3rd Grade S3E2. a,b Fossils & Extinction Students will observe and classify fossils while exploring the process of fossilization.
3rd Grade S3L1.b Hiding In Plain Sight Deign, hide, and hunt organisms using camoflauge.
3rd Grade S3L1 a,b,c Bird Beak Adaptations Students will investigate how the structure of beaks helps the animal live and survive and how we as engineers can use those designs to solve everyday problems.
3rd Grade S3L2. a,b Pollution Solution Students will explore the life cycle of sea turtules and discuss ways to solve ocean pollution.
3rd Grade S3P1 a,b Thermometers Students will use thermometers to test and analyze the temperature on various colors.
4th Grade S4P1. b Light Investigation Students can use mirrors, lights, and prisms to explore the nature of light and how it interacts with objects.

5th Grade S5L3. a The Unseen World: Structure & Function of Cells Students will view plant and animal cells while learning how to use the microscope.
5th Grade S5L4.a,b Glo Germs Students will use “Glo Germs” to investigate microorganisms.
5th Grade S5P2.b Simple Circuits Students will explore circuits. (Motors, batteries, lights, and wires)
6th Grade S6E1. a,b,c,d, Earth's Place In The Universe Students will create a model to demonstrate the seasons as well as complete a scavenger hunt using Stellarium.
6th Grade S6E2. A Phases of the Moon Students will make a model of the phases of the moon and learn why we see the different phases using the moon phase inquiry set.
6th Grade S6E5.b Be A Mineralogist Students will do simple tests to identify minerals.
6th Grade S6E5. c Rock Kits Students can investigate different types of rocks and classify by their formation.

7th Grade S7L3 DNA Extraction Students will complete a DNA Extraction Lab using fruits while exploring the roles of genes and chromosomes. Students will discuss acquired and inherited physical traits.
7th Grade S7L4 c Taking A Lesson From Nature Students will explore animal adaptation and biomimicry. Students will create an invention that uses biomimicry from an animal or plant adaptation.
8th Grade S8P1. a Separate Iron From Cereal Students will discover the differences in compounds, mixtures, and elements while extrating iron from iron fortified cereal.
8th Grade S8P2. b Bounce Students will discover potential and kenetic energy while measuring the bounce of two different types of balls.
