Join us on Monday, January 26, 2026 at the Georgia State Capitol in Room 216 to celebrate the 2026 Don Cargill STEM Scholars.
Special remarks will likely be informally given throughout but we do have some planned remarks set to start around 8:20 am. We will have a photographer available during this time and do plan to have a group photo. The legislators that represent the STEM Scholars, GYSTC State Board of Directors, and other guests (including legislative leaders) were invited to drop in between 8:15 am and 9:00 am. We also hope to visit the House and Senate Chambers. We anticipate that our events will conclude by 11:30 am, but you may want to do self-tours of the Capitol or the museum on your own after our event. Updates may be shared closer to the event.

Other Important Information
We look forward to celebrating with our STEM Scholars at the Georgia State Capitol on Monday, January 26th. Here are a few pointers on getting to the Capitol:
- Directions to the Capitol
- Mitchell Street/Capitol Square is closed to thru traffic and the public entrance is on that street. Mitchell St. becomes Capitol Square in the section directly adjacent to the Capitol and that block is blocked to cars.
- When you enter the building, you will have to go through security – think airport – metal detector and conveyor belt/Xray for purses, etc. You will also need to present your picture ID to the officer at the desk immediately beyond the conveyor belt.
- Our meeting room, 216, is on the same end of the Capitol as the public entrance. You’ll take the first right after security and go up one flight of stairs. At the top of the stairs, turn right and 216 will be on your left.
- Elevators are located on the left a bit past security.
The Capitol officially opens to the public at 8:00 am. If you arrive early or want to grab lunch within walking distance of the Capitol after our event, there are several options.
There are also some restaurants a short drive away on Memorial Drive (Ria’s Bluebird, Six Feet Under, Little Tart Bakeshop, Daddy D’z, and Mezcalito’s Cocina). Also, nearby with plenty of easy, accessible parking is Rodney Scott’s BBQ on Metropolitan Parkway.
Parking
Public parking is available in several locations surrounding the Capitol. Parking fees vary by lot, be aware on ongoing construction in the area. Please check the following link for general public parking.
Dress Code
Dress at the Capitol is business attire. Legislators and staff have a dress code. As guests, at a minimum standard, dress should be clean, neat, and professional. There is a lot of walking to get to the Capitol and then more walking inside, comfortable shoes are recommended.
